Getting Off On the Right Foot

I created this blog to document a journey I plan to undertake. Last month, I submitted a video application to a program called SOAR! A great woman named Me Ra Koh and her team have put together a scholarship program for women who want to grow in themselves through and with their photography. The nationwide search will be narrowed down to three women selected, with the results being announced mid-January (so any day now)! My video is posted below; please take a look!

Like I said in my video, I really love photography. It's been my passion for a while now, and I want to do more with it in my life, but I don't have the confidence to get started. I plan to use this blog to document the work I will do and to journal, basically, my thoughts along the way. The SOAR scholarship program has a curriculum of sorts - and also as I said in my video - even if three other women are selected for the program, I plan to continue on my own, documenting everything here.

Please come back often and continue to read. The SOAR assignments have weekly blog/video assignments, and I am going to do my best to keep up with that schedule while still working and being a mom and a wife, etcetera! I invite you to email me at heather@hatcreekkennel.com or to post your comments, whether it is support, prayers, or constructive criticism.

  1. Heather Lynn - you have more confidence in you than I do in my little toe. You have shot some beautiful pictures of your cousins in the past and I have no doubt in my mind that you will succeed in ways that will blow us all away. Always keep you head held high and shoot for the stars baby. I love you

  3. Good for you Heather! You will do great! You have the personality to do this.. and do it well. To me, photography is capturing people as they are at the moment... not as they want to be seen. I think some of the best photographs of people are when their skin is the outer, leading edge of the image with the real value being what's on the other side. You don't remember a tone.. or a reflection... you remember a feeling... a feeling inside yourself as the viewer.

    Good luck in your journey.
